Schumer Endorses Kamala
Today, we have an intriguing episode in the ever-evolving political drama as some elite figures throw their weight behind Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination following President Joe Biden’s surprising exit. Among these endorsements is Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), whose recent comments have stirred quite a reaction.
Let’s rewind a bit. Earlier, we reported on Kamala Harris’ awkward “please clap” moment, where her call for support was met with a deafening silence. Well, it seems Chuck Schumer had his own version of this during a recent attempt to rally enthusiasm for Harris.
In a video that’s been making the rounds, Schumer tried to muster excitement for Harris, proclaiming that the nomination process had played out “from the grassroots, bottom-up.” When he announced their support for “Kamala Harris!” there was… dead silence. Schumer, trying to salvage the moment, said, “I’m clapping; you don’t have to.” Ouch. That silence was louder than any applause could have been.

Schumer’s attempts to portray Harris’s nomination as a grassroots movement were met with skepticism. There has been no “process” involving the public — no votes, no primaries, just the elite stepping in to endorse Harris after Biden’s campaign started faltering.
In a particularly cringeworthy exchange, a reporter challenged Schumer on whether this was a “coronation” by insiders rather than a democratic process. Schumer’s response was a masterclass in spin: “The bottom line: It was a bottom-up process. People just rallied right to her side! The enthusiasm in this big, diverse, representative party was amazing! It was palpable; you could cut it with a knife!”
My initial reaction? Hahahahahahaha! Let’s be real here, folks. There hasn’t been a single vote cast for Harris as the nominee. No primary votes, not even a convention vote yet. Schumer’s description of the enthusiasm as something you could “cut with a knife” was amusingly ironic, as that phrase usually describes tense, uncomfortable situations. Even in his attempt at propaganda, a bit of reality slipped out.

Adding to the comedy of errors, Schumer didn’t even pronounce Harris’s name correctly. It’s a bit hard to rally support when you can’t say the candidate’s name right!
Schumer’s narrative that Biden “put his country first” by stepping aside is another hard sell. Biden was, in reality, pressured out by party insiders. Claiming this move was noble ignores the fact that Biden’s issues have been apparent for a long time. This situation isn’t about putting the country first; it’s about the elites overriding the voters’ choice and trying to prop up a candidate who hasn’t garnered primary support.
