Stewart Comments After Biden Call In Interview On News Network
Today, we’re diving into some sharp critiques from Jon Stewart regarding President Joe Biden’s outlook on the upcoming election against Donald Trump. Stewart’s comments highlight a significant concern: Biden might be underestimating the stakes of the election.
In a recent interview with ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos, Biden stated that he could accept defeat if he tried his best, saying, “I’ll feel as long as I gave it my all, and I did as good a job as I know I can do, that’s what this is about.” This statement didn’t sit well with Jon Stewart. On “The Daily Show,” Stewart retorted, “That’s not what this is about! There are no participation trophies in endgame democracy.”

Stewart’s remarks come amid growing criticisms of Biden’s performance, particularly following a problematic debate with Trump on June 27. Stewart pointed out Biden’s multiple verbal missteps and argued that the election is an “existential fight for freedom and democracy” in the United States. The president’s gaffe-ridden responses have intensified calls for him to reconsider his candidacy.
However, Stewart clarified that he isn’t advocating for Biden to drop out immediately. Instead, he suggested that the Democratic Party should “stress-test” Biden’s candidacy, reflecting the public’s desire for inspiration and leadership beyond the current options.
Stewart floated the idea of an open convention, allowing candidates to challenge Biden for the nomination. “I’m just workshopping here,” he added, emphasizing the need for a fresh approach.
“Challenge me at the convention.”

Biden, for his part, remains determined to seek re-election. He has consistently dismissed concerns over his age and mental fitness. In a letter to congressional Democrats, he reiterated his commitment to the race: “We have 42 days to the Democratic Convention and 119 days to the general election. It’s time to come together, move forward as a unified party, and defeat Donald Trump.”
Interestingly, Biden appears open to the idea of an open convention. In a call to MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” he said, “If any of these guys don’t think I should run, run against me. Announce for president. Challenge me at the convention.”
