Swamp Uses Watchdog Group To Obstruct Republicans In Senate Impeachment Trial
Almost two months after the Democrats began their quest on impeachment and almost a month after House Democrats voted to impeach the President a “non-partisan” watchdog group the Government Accountability Office has claimed the President broke the law in withholding funds to Ukraine.
This is right on cue as Democrats who have no crimes in the articles of impeachment are trying to get their way to continue investigating the President during the Senate Impeachment trial expected to start next week.
According to the Government Accountability Office, “In the summer of 2019, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) withheld from obligation funds appropriated to the Department of Defense (DOD) for security assistance to Ukraine,” the eight-page watchdog report read.
“Faithful execution of the law does not permit the President to substitute his own policy priorities for those that Congress has enacted into law. OMB withheld funds for a policy reason, which is not permitted under the Impoundment Control Act (ICA). The withholding was not a programmatic delay. Therefore, we conclude that OMB violated the ICA,” it concluded.
The Office of Budget Management sharply responded to the allegations and said, “We disagree with GAO’s opinion. OMB uses its apportionment authority to ensure taxpayer dollars are properly spent consistent with the President’s priorities and with the law,” OMB spokeswoman Rachel Semmel said.
It has already been reported by Department of Defense spokesman Jon Hoffman that the aid was paused to make sure it when out as Congress required it and that the aid was sent with “no detriment to our national security.”
This report ironically comes just one day after House Speaker Pelosi signed the articles of impeachment to send them to the Senate for the impeachment trial. Pelosi also named seven Democrats to be a manager and Rep. Adam Schiff will take the role of lead impeachment manager. For the past three weeks Pelosi held onto the articles of impeachment in an effort to get leverage on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell however, she failed.
This is no doubt the swamp trying to pressure Republicans in the Senate into doing what the Democrats want. This is just another version of what the Democrats tried to do to Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Obama was also accused of the same thing, don’t remember Democrats talking about that or wanting an impeachment inquiry.
Just a reminder that GAO findings are not legally binding and no, they are not impeachable. In fact, the law provides latitude to fix issues and none of them are impeachment. Obama also “broke the law” according to the GAO. I missed his impeachment trial. https://t.co/mD8uQBzewk
