Swift Makes Big Announcement On Social Media
Well, things just got a little strange in the world of social media and politics.
Hours after Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president, Elon Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) with a rather bizarre offer to Swift. After the singer, in a tongue-in-cheek reference to J.D. Vance’s infamous “childless cat ladies” comment, signed her endorsement post “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady,” Musk responded with an odd proposal: “Fine Taylor … you win…I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
The post was met with shock and confusion, even from Musk’s supporters. Ian Miles Cheong, a frequent defender of Musk, simply replied: “My God,” summing up what many seemed to be thinking.
Swift’s endorsement itself made waves earlier, following her 2020 support of Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton in 2016. This time, she threw her backing behind Harris, saying, “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Swift also signed off her message in a humorous nod to Vance’s previous comment, embracing the “childless cat lady” label.
Musk’s response, however, took a strange turn. Known for his commentary on population decline, the father of twelve has frequently spoken out about his belief in a “collapsing birth rate” and his personal mission to help solve what he views as an underpopulation crisis. This bizarre offer to Swift follows Musk’s ongoing public comments about fatherhood, but in this case, the timing and tone felt unsettling to many.
Meanwhile, the debate that spurred Swift’s endorsement didn’t go unnoticed either. The heated clash between Harris and Trump was marked by sharp exchanges, particularly on issues like immigration, abortion, and foreign policy.
Trump’s bold, and often unsubstantiated, claims—such as his statement about migrants allegedly eating pets—prompted Harris to respond with a mix of disbelief and humor. In one of the night’s most intense moments, Harris hit back at Trump’s track record, mocking his refusal to accept the 2020 election results: “Donald Trump was fired by 81 million people. So let’s be clear about that.”
Despite the chaotic nature of the debate, Swift’s endorsement capped off a strong night for Harris, who many observers felt performed well under pressure. Trump’s supporters, meanwhile, were quick to criticize the moderators, accusing them of bias and claiming Trump faced a “three-on-one” battle.
