Tapper Comments On Debate
It looks like Kamala Harris is having a rough time keeping her positions straight, and it’s catching the attention of more than just the usual critics.
CNN’s Erin Burnett and Jake Tapper, in particular, have been pulling no punches when it comes to calling her out on some glaring inconsistencies. This all kicked off with Burnett highlighting Andrew Kaczynski’s deep dive into Harris’s responses to a 2019 ACLU questionnaire—especially the part where she endorsed taxpayer-funded gender transition surgeries for detained illegal immigrants. Talk about a political landmine.
But the more eye-opening moment came when Tapper took his turn at Harris after the debate. Tapper, who’s usually careful in how he critiques Democratic candidates, was surprisingly direct. He pointed out that Harris dodged or “punted” on key questions, especially around the economy—arguably the number one issue on voters’ minds.
When asked if Americans were better off, she launched into a personal story about being raised in a middle-class family, but never really gave a clear answer on how her plans would help those struggling now. You know, the kind of non-answer that frustrates voters who are dealing with inflation and sky-high prices.
CNN’s Jake Tapper, in a shocking moment of journalism, SLAMS Kamala for dodging multiple debate questions:
“Vice President Harris began the debate by punting the first question on the economy…”
“On the border, another vulnerable issue for Harris, she also dodged…”

Tapper didn’t let her off easy. He made it clear that her allies are even acknowledging the need for her to get specific—something she’s apparently still struggling with.
Then there was her response on the border, where she again avoided answering the real question: What would she do differently than Joe Biden?
Instead, she trotted out the fact that she’s prosecuted transnational criminals, a claim that Tapper and anyone paying attention finds questionable, given the rise of human smuggling and the billions those gangs have made under the Biden-Harris administration.
Tapper didn’t stop there. He went after her lack of clarity on the Israel-Hamas conflict as well. When asked what her plan was to resolve the crisis, her response was more of the same: vague promises of working “around the clock” for a ceasefire, but no specifics on how she’d accomplish that.
What’s striking here is not just that Harris failed to answer these critical questions but that major outlets like CNN—typically seen as friendlier to Democrats—are starting to call her out for it. As Tapper noted, independent voters, who will likely decide the election, weren’t impressed with her performance either. Even ABC reporters, who are usually more sympathetic, echoed similar concerns.
