The Woke Up In Arms Over Halloween Costume
The woke are up in arms over a Halloween costume this year.
Activists are upset about a costume called “Karen” that pokes fun at entitled liberal woman. The costume is being slammed for being tone deaf.
From the New York Post:
The Karen costume came to light after a Twitter user named Helen Shivers shared a snap of the inflammatory accessory, dubbed a “Karen Wig,” that she came across at a costume shop last week. She captioned the pic: “and the scariest costume goes to…”
The packaging for the wig, which is sold online by Spirit Halloween for $19.99, features a pic of a model in an exaggerated bouffant blonde wig and sweater lowering a pair of sunglasses and flashing an accusatory glare. (Note: The infamous ‘do is widely believed to have been inspired by the asymmetrical haircut of Kate Gosselin from the reality TV show “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” circa 2009.)
The description on the retailer’s site reads, “Everyone will know you’re looking to speak to the manager when you complete your Karen outfit with this hilarious Karen Wig. This short and stylish cut is the perfect hairstyle to show everyone you ain’t the one to mess with.”
“I don’t like how they’re profiting from the very real issue of racism,” an activists complained.
“Ion like how they profiting off racist entitled white woman and using a word ppl use to call them out into a trendy Halloween costume…but ima be quiet,” said another.
Another costume that has ruffled the woke’s feathers is the “tranny granny” costume. It was pulled from Walmart shelves after activists claimed that it mocks transgender women and “uses a transphobic slur.”
Disney was also forced to pull a costume from their movie “Moana” are the woke claimed it promoted brown face.
The costume represented the demigod Maui, played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
“The team behind ‘Moana’ has taken great care to respect the cultures of the Pacific Islands that inspired the film, and we regret that the Maui costume has offended some,” a Disney representative told HuffPost on Wednesday. “We sincerely apologize and are pulling the costume from our website and stores.”
The costume came with a suit that was covered in Polynesian tattoos, a wig, and a leaf skirt.
