Trump Comments On Biden’s Statement During Video Call
As the 2024 election race reaches its final stretch, tensions are escalating between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, whose recent remarks stirred fresh controversy.
During a campaign call, Biden described Trump’s supporters as “garbage,” sparking swift backlash from Trump, who addressed his crowd in characteristic style, calling the comment “terrible” and drawing a parallel to Hillary Clinton’s infamous “deplorables” remark from the 2016 race.
Trump underscored the harshness of Biden’s language, quipping, “Garbage I think is worse, right? But he doesn’t know…he really doesn’t know,” suggesting that Biden’s comment reflected a disconnect rather than a calculated attack.
Trump then pivoted to a critique of Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, in a tone that conveyed both humor and skepticism about the Biden-Harris ticket’s dynamics.
“I’m convinced that he likes me more than he likes Kamala,” Trump quipped, underscoring his view that Biden’s judgment toward Harris is as unclear as his comments toward Trump supporters.
The Trump campaign quickly released a statement framing Biden and Harris as being openly antagonistic not just toward Trump but also toward the millions who support him, characterizing the Democrat approach as labeling Trump backers with epithets like “fascists, Nazis, and now, garbage.”
The statement positioned Trump as a unifier, pledging, “President Trump will be a president for ALL Americans,” emphasizing Trump’s purported inclusivity against Biden’s divisive language.
The incident punctuates what has become a markedly polarizing campaign, in which Biden’s comments threaten to undercut the tone Harris is trying to project — one of “joy” and “turning the page.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Biden’s remark also references a comedian’s inflammatory comments about Puerto Rico at a Trump rally, in which Puerto Rico was disparagingly described as “a floating island of garbage.” Biden aligned himself with a hardline stance, stating, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” casting Trump’s backers as hostile to American values.
