Trump Comments On The Smithsonian Displays
President Donald Trump has once again zeroed in on what he views as one of the remaining battlegrounds of left-wing ideology: America’s museums — and this time, he’s naming names.
In a fiery statement posted Tuesday on Truth Social, Trump took direct aim at the Smithsonian Institution, calling it “OUT OF CONTROL” and accusing it of pushing a distorted version of American history rooted in what he describes as “woke” ideology.
This isn’t new territory for Trump, who has long positioned himself as a fierce opponent of what he sees as ideological overreach in education, culture, and history. But now, he’s escalating the battle, shifting from the nation’s classrooms to its museums — institutions tasked with preserving and presenting the American story.
According to Trump, the Smithsonian — one of the most respected museum systems in the world — has drifted far from its original mission. He criticized its current tone and content, alleging that it focuses excessively on America’s darkest chapters while ignoring its many triumphs.
“Nothing about success, nothing about brightness, nothing about the future,” Trump said, painting a stark picture of exhibits he claims are designed to shame, rather than inspire.
He made it clear that his administration is not taking a passive approach. A formal letter from Trump allies Lindsey Halligan, Vince Haley, and Russ Vought to Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch outlines an internal review already underway.
The objective? To strip “divisive or partisan narratives” from exhibitions and return the institution to what Trump calls a “broader vision of excellence” — one that celebrates American exceptionalism.
This marks an extension of a broader campaign already in motion. Earlier this year, Trump issued directives to schools and universities to eliminate DEI programs and gender theory compliance or risk federal funding cuts. His message has been consistent: American institutions must align with a vision grounded in historical accuracy, unity, and national pride — not leftist revisionism.
But Trump isn’t just attacking ideology — he’s reframing the cultural conversation. When he says, “WOKE IS BROKE,” he’s not merely criticizing; he’s issuing a rallying cry to reshape how future generations encounter American heritage. Museums, in his view, are no longer neutral halls of learning but front lines in a cultural war — and he’s determined to reclaim them.
