Trump Just Got A Huge Boost Amid Arrest Rumors
Donald Trump continues to lead the field of potential 2024 Republican presidential candidates, according to the latest Morning Consult survey released Tuesday. The former President achieved a +28 lead over his closest competitor, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, with 54 percent of potential primary voters supporting Trump, compared to DeSantis’ 26 percent.
The survey was taken amidst rumors of an impending arrest for Trump, related to a 2016 hush money scheme with Stormy Daniels. This news appears to have only strengthened his support, as Trump‘s lead jumped from +24 to +28 in the last week. Former Vice President Mike Pence, who has consistently come in third place in the polls, gained no ground in the latest survey, with seven percent support. Presidential candidate Nikki Haley and former Rep. Liz Cheney followed with four and three percent support, respectively.
The news of Trump’s potential arrest also sparked controversy within the Republican Party, as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis weighed in on the situation. DeSantis condemned the woke leftist prosecutor Alvin Bragg and noted that his administration is “not going to be involved” with a “manufactured circus by some Soros [backed] DA.”
“But what I can speak to is that if you have a prosecutor who is ignoring crimes happening every single day in his jurisdiction, and he chooses to go back many, many years ago, to try to use something about porn star hush money payment,” DeSantis said, concluding that he has “real issues” to deal with in Florida. His comments were met with criticism from several high–profile Republicans, including Trump’s sons.
Despite the controversy, the Morning Consult survey indicates that Trump’s support continues to grow in the Republican Party. Many conservatives who are frustrated with DeSantis’s position on the matter have chosen Trump as their second–choice candidate, suggesting that Trump is likely to remain the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination.
