Trump Travels To Arlington For Ceremony
Let’s take a moment to reflect on a deeply emotional and significant event that recently took place at Arlington National Cemetery.
On Monday, a memorial ceremony was held to honor the 13 U.S. service members who tragically lost their lives in the August 26, 2021, terror attack at Abbey Gate during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan. This event has touched many hearts, but perhaps none more so than Gold Star father Steve Nikoui, whose son, Kareem Nikoui, was one of the heroes lost that day.
Steve Nikoui described the ceremony as nothing short of a “miracle,” particularly because it marked the first time in three years that any high-ranking official, past or present, had formally paid respects to the fallen. What made this ceremony even more poignant was the presence of former President Donald Trump, who participated in a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the service members.

We lost these heroes because of the ignorance and arrogance of politicians, like Kamala Harris & Joe Biden, who treat America’s warriors as disposable. pic.twitter.com/PoLEEgPaa2

For Nikoui, Trump’s appearance held special significance. He expressed that Trump has been a steadfast advocate for the Gold Star families, standing by them as they seek answers and accountability for the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. “The fact that it took place in and of itself was a miracle because that is the only time that any president — or, or prior president or anybody high up in the executive branch — that’s ever paid any respects to our kids,” Nikoui said in an interview with The Daily Wire’s John Bickley.
Nikoui went on to explain how Trump’s support has been unwavering since the tragedy. From meeting with the families to hosting them at his Bedminster estate, Trump has consistently shown his commitment to honoring their loved ones. Nikoui recalled how Trump, even when facing his own legal challenges and public scrutiny, made it clear that he would continue to support the families and ensure that their sacrifices are remembered.
“Donald J. Trump was the only one… He was the only one that ever honored us and listened to us and let us talk about our kids individually with him,” Nikoui said, adding that Trump promised to honor the fallen heroes at the White House if he returns to office.
This ceremony and Trump’s involvement have brought a measure of comfort to the Gold Star families, who have felt overlooked and unheard in the years since the attack. Nikoui’s words highlight the importance of leadership that listens and honors the sacrifices of those who serve.
The families’ stories have been crucial in bringing attention to the failures surrounding the Afghanistan withdrawal, and their perseverance has led to ongoing investigations and discussions at the highest levels of government.
