VIDEO: Bush Lobbies For Biden Immigration Plan, Dumps On Trump & Lectures Conservatives, Says They Need To Be ‘More Respectful About The Immigrant’
It would appear that former President George W. Bush was lobbying for Biden’s immigration plan during an interview with “CBS Evening News” anchor Norah O’Donnell. The former president also said that Republicans should be more respectful to immigrants.
O’Donnell asked, “Do you want to be involved in the immigration discussion?”
Bush said, “Yeah, I do, in a way, in a way. I don’t want to be prescriptive. I don’t want to, you know, tell Congress how to do this or that. I do want to say to Congress, ‘Please put aside all the harsh rhetoric about immigration. Please put aside trying to score political points on either side.’ I hope I can help set a tone that is more respectful about the immigrant, which may lead to reform of the system.”
O’Donnell said, “The former president supports a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants if they pass a background check and pay back taxes. And if that were the proposal by President Biden. would you lobby your own party to support that?”
Bush said, “I am right now. Whether my own party listens to me or not’s another question.”
He added, “But it’s a part of hopefully creating a better understanding about the role of immigrants in our society. Mine is just a small voice in what I hope is a chorus of people saying, ‘Let’s see if we can’t solve the problem.’”
The former president also took a swipe at former President Trump who kicked his brother out of the Republican primary in 2016.
“I feel a responsibility to uphold the dignity of the office,” Bush said. “I did then, and I do now. And I think it’s undignified to wanna see my name in print all the time. I think it basically sends a signal that I miss being famous and, you know, I want people to see me. LISTEN TO ME! And, you know, I don’t. I really don’t.”
“So, you feel humbled by the office, it sounds like?” said O’Donnell.
“Totally. To me, humility shows an understanding of self. It shows a belief in a higher power that is necessary to be an effective leader. And we were short of humility,” he said.
“In the last four years?”
“Yeah, absolutely.”
That attitude right there is why conservatives abandoned Bush, he was all in for amnesty and he would never stick up for himself.
What probably make the former president even angrier is that his position turned out to be the wrong one. Bush and Karl Rove (along with Rhino’s) swore up and down amnesty was the only way to get hispanics to vote for Republicans. However, we now know that it was former president Trump that grew the party and got the most votes from minority communities.
