VP Harris Got Herself in Another Hypocritical Jam
Vice President Kamala Harris got into quite a bit of a fix this week. This was referencing President Joe Biden’s offering a blanket pardon for all federal inmates who are serving time for simple possession of marijuana offenses. And now Harris all of a sudden believes that “nobody” should serve jail time for possession of pot.
The vice president was speaking at a fundraiser in Austin, Texas. She addressed a number of issues including marijuana pardons. Harris said, “And speaking of the system of justice,” then Harris began speaking with what one reporter called a “bizarre mixture of a Long Island and southern accent.”
“We are also changing — y’all might have heard that this week — the federal government’s approach to marijuana,” Harris declared and paused for dramatic effect.
“Because the bottom line there is nobody should have to go to jail for smoking weed,” she said with a big grin as people in the audience cheered.
The ironic part of all this is that she personally sent almost 2,000 people in California to jail for marijuana-based offenses between 2004 and 2011. She served as district attorney of San Francisco during this time.
The truth is that when opponent Tulsi Gabbard called Harris on her record as D.A., that was the moment her bid for the Democratic nomination in 2020 was dead in the water.
“Now, Senator Harris says she’s proud of her record as a prosecutor and she’ll be a prosecutor president, but I’m deeply concerned about this record,” Gabbard stated at the time. “There are too many examples to cite. She put over 1500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana.”
Now in 2022, many on social media have criticized Harris for such a hypocritical about-face on the issue.
