President Joe Biden took a stumble while boarding Air Force One in Poland on Wednesday. Video of the incident shows Biden slowly ascending the stairs before losing his footing and trying to quickly regain it. After abruptly turning around and saluting, he made his way onto the aircraft.

 The incident has raised concerns from some Republicans, who have now demanded that Biden take a cognitive test to assess whether he is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. This is one of many incidents where Biden has lost his footing. He fell three times in March of 2021 climbing up the stairs to board Air Force One. 

A letter was issued and signed by 38 Republican lawmakers, including Donald Trump’s former White House physician and now-Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX). It cited the president’s “changes in mood and personality” and “forgetfulness” as evidence of a decline in his cognitive ability.

The letter went on to claim that Biden’s decline has been ongoing over the past two years and that his physical incidents are not limited to walking up stairs. It also noted his bike accident in June, in which he fell off his bike in Rehoboth, Delaware after getting his foot stuck in the peddle.

The White House has since responded to the letter with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre telling reporters that Biden is “100% fine” and that “we want to be transparent, want to make sure you have the information.” However, reportedly, a cognitive test was not issued during last week’s physical examination.

The incident raises important questions about Biden’s physical state and his mental acuity. It is unclear whether Biden’s cognitive abilities are sufficient to handle the rigors of the presidency. Republicans want answers and are demanding that Biden take a cognitive test to assess his fitness for office.
