Watch: Democrat Congresswoman Get Ripped By Constituents And Faces Boos Over Impeachment During Townhall
First-term (and prob last after this) Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) faced boos and chants of “Four more years!” (for President Trump) as she held a town hall in her district this past weekend.
Slotkin was one of the “freshman seven” who signed an op-ed in the Washington Post supporting the impeachment inquiry. On September 24th when the op-ed was signed not one of the freshman members of congress had seen any evidence or the transcript of the phone call between President Trump and the President of Ukraine yet.
Unfortunately for Slotkin many of her constituents are not happy with her decision to join her fellow Democrats in the impeachment inquiry against President Trump. The Congressional Leadership Fund, a Republican super PAC, published the video of one exchange in Rochester, Michigan, of the downhill that occurred last Friday evening.
Slotkin has also had trouble during other town halls in Michigan eighth congressional district, according to the Detroit News on Monday:
Inside the crowded gatherings, Slotkin spoke of prescription drug reform, infrastructure and education funding. But it was her recent support of an impeachment inquiry that raised a cacophony of applause, boos and mingled shouts of “Let her speak” and “Fake news.”
“I know that it’s clearly not popular,” Slotkin said Thursday in Hartland. “But I just felt compelled to do it because I just don’t know where this ends.”
For the first-term Democratic lawmaker in a Republican-leaning district, the residents’ reactions to Slotkin’s impeachment decision could make a world of difference in the upcoming 2020 race in the 8th Congressional District. Slotkin won by nearly 4 percentage points over Rep. Mike Bishop, R-Rochester, in 2018, while Trump won the district by nearly 7 percentage points in 2016.
CNN of all places also posted a video of another encounter at a Slotkin town hall showing that the congresswoman is in trouble trying to hold onto her seat.
Slotkin is one of several Democrats that have won a congressional seat in a district that supported President Trump, and now she has two Republicans battling it out to go against her in the upcoming election. The way this is going there are going to be a lot more Republicans in the House in 2020.
