Watch: McConnell Shuts Down Schumer And Then Twists The Knife With Nominations
I gotta give it to Senator McConnell he is going straight gangster on the Democrats.
On Monday Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer made the rounds asking Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for a “fair and honest trial.” Schumer posted on twitter, “We want a trial to be fair, and for the American people to think it is fair. It cannot be a cover-up. It cannot be something where there are witnesses who have direct knowledge of what happened and do not testify.”
Schumer also wanted control of the witness list and demanded Trump administration officials like John Bolton, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney, and budget official Michael Duffey to testify. Now, McConnell may allow some of them to testify especially now that we know that the report Schiff released supposedly showing coordination between Trump, Giuliani, and the budget office was found to be 100% false.
Well, McConnell is not having it!
“The House chose this road. It is their duty to investigate,” said McConnell in a floor speech Tuesday morning. “It’s their duty to meet the very high bar for undoing a national election. As Speaker Pelosi herself once said, it is the House’s obligation to, quote, ‘build an ironclad case to act. If they fail, they fail. It is not the Senate’s job to leap into the breach and search desperately for ways to get to guilty. That would hardly be impartial justice,” he added.
Senator McConnell also hinted that the Senate is going to move quickly and will move to dismiss the impeachment articles levied against President Trump following the opening arguments.
But, McConnell isn’t stopping there, he decided to twist the knife into the heart of Democrats just a little more. He is prepping the Senate to vote on more than a dozen judicial nominations before the Senate breaks for the Holidays!
On Monday while Schumer was whining about wanting things fair McConnell file cloture on 13 of President Trump’s district court picks.
Republicans in the Senate have confirmed 174 judges this year and have almost turned the tide of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. McConnell has been on the record saying the best thing long term the Republican Party can do is get as many judges appointed as possible.
Here’s McConnell shutting down Schumer and jabbing at House Democrats…
