Watch: Rep. Maxine Waters Tries To Intervene During Police Traffic Stop
The California Congresswoman, Maxine Water was seen on social media getting out of her SUV and trying to intervene in a traffic stop in a traffic stop.
The congresswoman told the person filming her and the police that she saw the police “stopped a brother” and that she was going to check in on the situation.
The Los Angels Sheriff’s Office explained that the motorist was pulled over by police as part of a burglary investigation. Waters pulled her SUV close to the traffic stop in the street and began “yelling at deputies.”
That’s when the video starts, Waters comes out of her vehicle and explains her actions to the woman capturing the video.
“They stopped a brother, so I stopped to see what they were doing,” said Waters.
“They say I’m in the wrong place. They say they’re going to give me a ticket,” she explained.
“That’s ok, as long as I watch them,” Waters concluded.
The person recording the video agreed with her and said, “Gotta do what they gotta do. Make sure.”
“I will,” Waters said and walked over to the police.
Police issued a citation for obstructing traffic however she refused to sign it. Waters was later released with a warning.
The man who was the subject of the traffic stop was found to be in possession of a metal pipe but was also released by police with a warning.
Waters’ intervention with police was just a couple of days before it was discovered that former Vice-Chair of the DNC and Minnesota AG Keith Ellison said that police should not respond to rape calls because they are only really trained to use their gun. Her intervention also occurred after House Speaker Pelosi compared federal officers protecting the courthouse in Portland, Oregon to “stormtroopers.”
