Watch Out Schiff and Omar, McCarthy Is Coming! – Watch
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is already making moves that will appeal to the base of the GOP. He said that if he became the Speaker he wants to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
But that is not his only planned move, he also told Fox’s Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures” that he was possibly going to aim both Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the current head of the House Intel Committee, and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who is also on the Intel Committee.
McCarthy explained that Swalwell’s association with a Chinese spy and Schiff’s promotion of the Steele dossier should affect their future on committees. He went further saying that Omar’s criticism of Israel disqualifies her from serving on the panels.
“One thing I said from the very beginning, Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector,” he said. “Why would we ever give him a security clearance and the secrets to America? So, I will not allow him to be on Intel.”
“You have Adam Schiff, who lied to the American public time and again – we will not allow him to be on the Intel Committee either,” he continued. “Look at Congresswoman Omar, her antisemitic comments that have gone forward. We’re not going to allow her to be on Foreign Affairs.”
It is not clear just how big the GOP majority will be, somewhere between 220 and 224 seats, and McCarthy will need 218 votes to become speaker. There are at least three Republicans who have already said that they aren’t going to vote for him. This includes Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), and Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT).
Schiff thought he was being clever when he whined that McCarthy was going to have to appeal to the conservative wing of the part, but that seems like a pretty obvious move, doesn’t it?
