What’s Happening In This Pennsylvania Congressional Race May Spell Doom For Dems In November
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, a Republican from Bucks County, which is a Philadelphia suburb is seeking a third term in Congress and he’s running against Democrat Christina Finello. Hillary Clinton won Buck county in 2016.
During the intense lockdown imposed by Governor Wolf in the spring, Bucks county tried several times to thwart the stay at home order however local Democrat leaders refused to join Republicans.
Fitzpatrick, who hasn’t always gotten along with conservatives is crushing Finello 52% to 36% and the lockdown could be one reasons why.
Christina Finello is a Buck County, Ivyland Borough Councilwoman that supported Governor Wolf. Voters haven’t forgotten that it wasn’t until the summer when Wolf finally allowed the greater Philadelphia area to open up.
The GOP shared the internal poll with PoliticsPA:
A poll shared exclusively with PoliticsPA by Congressional Leadership Fund shows Fitzpatrick leads Democratic candidate Christina Finello, an Ivyland Borough Councilwoman, 52-to-36, in the race for Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District.
Congressional Leadership Fund is a Republican super PAC endorsed by House Republican leadership.
It’s the second poll this cycle that they’ve released on the race in PA1. In July, CLF’s poll showed Fitzpatrick with a 15 point lead over Finello, 50-to-35, in the race.
Data released by the Democrats show the Fitzpatrick is winning but only by 1-3 points depending on the poll.
Finello has been trying to tie Fitzpatrick with President Trump.
“Brian Fitzpatrick and his special interest friends are doubling down on Trump’s playbook of fear-mongering and lies because they know Fitzpatrick’s record of failing to stand up for Bucks and Montgomery counties, voting with Donald Trump to gut protections for people with preexisting conditions, and refusing to extend urgently needed relief during the pandemic is indefensible,” said Finello campaign spokesperson, Ali Anderson. “Voters know better. In November, Fitzpatrick will be held accountable for turning his back on the people he is meant to serve and misleading them for the sake of partisan politics.”
But, Fitzpatrick hasn’t always sided with the President, he’s part of the problem solvers caucus and voted against border wall funding.
However, things are different since the pandemic. The problem solvers caucus resolution for coronavirus relief was shot down by Pelosi and the Democrats rhetoric as of late is pushing people right; including Fitzpatrick.
The data coming from this race shows that the Democrats are in hot water and it could spell doom for them in November.
