White House Reveals What Caused The 96 Percent Drop In Legal Immigration
The White House X account posted a graph showing a sharp drop. Legal immigration from Muslim-majority nations has all but halted. The numbers show a 96 percent cut since 2024. This data comes from the Cato Institute. The graph tracks quarterly admissions. It shows a steep decline starting in January 2025. That is when President Donald Trump took office.
Before this shift, the flow was much higher. At its peak, over 22,000 people entered per month. This happened between July and October of 2024. By January of this year, that number dropped to almost zero. Fox News reported the details of this chart. The decline also appeared in late 2024. That was the last year of Joe Biden’s tenure.

Supporters are calling this a huge win for the country. Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, spoke up quickly. POTUS, he claimed, secured an absolutely incredible victory for the American people. Brandon Herrera, the GOP nominee in Texas’ 23rd District, agreed. Continuing to deliver on these wins, he stated, is what we need.
Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., added his own comment. He wrote, “4 percent to go! Thank you, President Trump.” Columnist Kurt Schlichter also weighed in on the changes. Every category of immigrant, he said, should see those rookie numbers pumped up. Even regular users are reacting. One user named David Harrison said, “I voted for this—and will again.”
This is the single most consequential policy to combat antisemitism in the US in the last decade and it’s not even close. And the Trump admin — and especially those like @StephenM who implemented it — will get no thanks or credit from legacy Jewish organizations, which is… https://t.co/kIQtUoFfSw

The White House says the reduction is intentional. They claim to have cut legalized migration by more than 90 percent. Breitbart noted that the policy shift aims to reduce antisemitism. Noah Pollak, a Trump deputy, explained the goal. He said the move reduces the growth of antisemitic communities in the U.S.
Pollak wrote on X about the impact. In the last decade, he labeled it the single most consequential policy to combat antisemitism in the US and noted it is not even close. He also noted that some groups might not offer thanks. Legacy Jewish organizations, Pollak wrote, will offer no thanks or credit to the Trump admin, especially those like @StephenM who implemented it.
Coming to America means committing to America: our Constitution, our laws, our freedoms.
Tougher vetting under @POTUS Trump has cut admissions from high-risk countries by 96%. We owe Americans nothing less than knowing exactly who we let in. https://t.co/yFIpQRwNHs

Daily Wire reported that strict screening protocols caused the drop. Targeted travel restrictions played a big role too. The administration slammed the brakes on the Refugee Admissions Program. Mid-2025 and early 2026 saw them follow up with expanded travel bans. Executive actions in June 2025 and December 2025 targeted specific countries. These nations were cited for harboring terrorists or having poor records.
President Donald Trump explained his actions in a June 2025 proclamation. On January 20, 2025, within Executive Order 14161 (Protecting the United States From Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats), he stated that protecting citizens from aliens intending terrorist attacks is US policy.
Before I left Islam, as a Muslim child, I remember being taught supremacist views that vilified Western people.
The things they said about Westerners are disgusting and I mention them in the video.
Believe me, I never heard a single word about migrating to integrate with… pic.twitter.com/VXTRlDawyl

The data covers various types of legal entry. Monthly inflows include new legal migrants and chain-migration relatives. Refugee inflow set by the White House is also included in them. In 2024, deputies under Joe Biden welcomed roughly 14,000 migrants per month. These came from nations like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, and Malaysia.

By February 2026, that monthly inflow had plummeted to roughly 1,000. Throughout 2024, combined refugee and immigrant visa issuances hovered between 14,000 and 23,000 per month. Trump took the oath of office in January 2025, transforming the landscape. From a baseline of roughly 16,700 monthly issuances in January 2024, numbers dropped to a mere 800 by February 2026. Plummeting immigration came from nations like Somalia, Iran, Libya, and dozens of others. Muslims from nations with Muslim minorities like India are not included in the chart. One user warned of future political moves. The urge to punish the GOP, it said, should not happen next time. Remember that Democrats will reverse this overnight.
