White House struggles to sell AI buildout to rural MAGA base
The skeptics aren’t just the usual lefty tree huggers anymore. Swaths of President Trump’s rural MAGA base are now the naysayers. These voters live where the big data centers are being built. They see the increased water usage and the high energy costs. The White House knows the problem but lacks a clear message. An administration-linked senior Wall Street executive told the New York Post that they remain unable to solve this.
He warned that without the AI buildout, the US might face a recession. He said the need for action is urgent to save the economy. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent blamed the tech industry for the confusion. According to him, top executives performed terribly, terribly, when explaining their actions.
President Trump has tried to convince citizens that opposing AI helps China. He wants Americans to let Data Reign to stay successful and rich. His Truth Social post stated that killing the Golden Goose leaves only yourselves to blame. The executive also observed that China could not be happier regarding this anti Data Center movement. Actually, they can’t believe it is happening, he said.
The administration fears Democrats could use this AI hysteria before the midterms. A rollback of AI growth could doom the president’s last two years in office. It could also make a 2028 GOP victory much harder to achieve. That senior executive pointed out good news: many other places desire their presence. Should the Golden Goose be killed, you will have only yourselves to blame.
The data shows a sharp divide in the labor market for young people. Stanford researchers found that employment among 22- to 25-year-olds in AI-exposed jobs has fallen 19 percent. These young workers in software and accounting are competing for fewer roles. They are losing out to peers in nursing, construction, and food services. Experienced workers in the same fields have not seen a drop in new roles.
The clearest effect is simply fewer job opportunities for young Americans. AI is automating the entry-level tasks that help young workers climb the ladder. This leaves them with less income and fewer chances to learn skills. Since 1947, the labor share of GDP has dropped to its lowest level. Profit margins are rising faster than revenue while wages stay flat. One writer at Townhall called this an unsustainable situation for the future. Populism causes this issue, and both parties constitute the problem. The real cost is losing income today and shrinking opportunities tomorrow.
