Woke Disney Finally Got Something Right and the Dems Are Furious!
Is Woke Disney finally getting something right? The Disney-owned streaming service Hulu is making Democrats fume. They have refused to run political ads on some of the bedrock themes of the Democratic midterm campaigns, including abortion, guns, and the January 6 attack on the Capitol.
Democratic candidates and party leaders are angry because of the young voters attracted to Hulu. But the streaming service has a policy against running content that is considered controversial. Hulu is holding on to the Communications Act of 1934 which requires broadcast television networks to provide politicians with equal access to the airwaves.
Three Democratic organizations tried to purchase joint ads on abortion and guns with Hulu on July 15. The organizations were the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Democratic Governors Association. While their ads ran on some networks like ESPN, they never ran on Hulu.
“Hulu’s censorship of the truth is outrageous, offensive, and another step down a dangerous path for our country. Voters have the right to know the facts about MAGA Republicans’ agenda on issues like abortion — and Hulu is doing a huge disservice to the American people by blocking voters from learning the truth about the GOP record or denying these issues from even being discussed,” the executive directors from the three Democratic organizations wrote in a statement given to The Washington Post.
Suraj Patel, a Democratic candidate for Congress in New York City, posted a letter protesting the decision by Hulu.
“To not discuss these topics in my campaign ad is to not address the most important issues facing the United States,” Patel wrote. “Your ban on mobilization messaging has a perverse effect on Democracy. This policy has incredible implications for people nationwide, both voters and people running for office,” Patel said. “You need to communicate with younger voters on the mediums where they are watching. Cable is not where they are watching.”
I guess the GOP must be wishing upon a star because some dreams really do come true.
