Biden Comments On Hunter Case
President Joe Biden stated in an interview on Thursday that he would accept the outcome of his son Hunter Biden’s criminal trial and would not grant him a pardon if convicted. The remarks were made during an ABC News interview with David Muir, conducted while Biden was in Normandy, France, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
When Muir asked Biden if he would accept the result of Hunter Biden’s trial in Wilmington, Delaware, the president responded unequivocally: “Yes.” He also affirmed that he would rule out the possibility of pardoning his son if he is convicted, again answering with a firm “yes.”
Hunter Biden faces serious legal trouble, having been charged with three felonies. These charges stem from allegations that he lied on a federal background check form to obtain a firearm and subsequently possessed the weapon illegally. If convicted, Hunter Biden could face up to 25 years in prison and fines totaling up to $750,000.
The charges are based on Hunter Biden allegedly marking a box on the background check form indicating that he was not using and was not addicted to illegal drugs. This assertion directly contradicts his own admissions of crack cocaine use, detailed in his memoir. Special Counsel David Weiss emphasized this contradiction in court filings, noting that Hunter Biden had publicly acknowledged his drug use during the period in question.
Weiss further highlighted the evidence found during the investigation. He mentioned that FBI investigators discovered a white powdery substance, which they identified as cocaine, on the pouch where Hunter Biden kept his gun.
This discovery was made in 2023 when investigators re-examined sealed evidence from the state police vault. Weiss noted that this finding corroborated messages indicating Hunter Biden’s drug use in October 2018, the time when he possessed the firearm.
In court documents, Weiss elaborated on the implications of these findings. He pointed out that Hunter Biden’s own book, published in 2021, contains numerous incriminating statements about his extensive drug use, including during the period he obtained and possessed the gun. Weiss’s filings underscore the seriousness of the charges and the weight of the evidence against Hunter Biden.
This case has drawn significant public and media attention, given Hunter Biden’s high-profile status as the president’s son. The investigation and resulting charges reflect the ongoing scrutiny of his actions and the legal consequences he may face. President Biden’s commitment to allowing the legal process to unfold without intervention underscores the gravity of the situation and the administration’s stance on the matter.
As the trial progresses, all eyes will be on the courtroom in Wilmington, Delaware, where Hunter Biden will face the legal repercussions of his actions. The outcome of this case will undoubtedly have significant implications, not only for Hunter Biden but also for the Biden administration and its handling of legal and ethical issues.
