As Vice President Kamala Harris campaigns across key swing states in the final days before the election, her performances have been hitting the headlines—for all the wrong reasons. In a series of unusual and poorly-received moments, Harris has left some questioning her strategy. At a rally where attendees reportedly left disappointed due to what they saw as a “bait and switch” suggesting that Beyoncé might perform, Harris’s team found itself fielding confusion instead of rallying energy. Add in a hot mic incident while Harris shared a beer with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and it’s clear her campaign is facing uphill optics challenges.

In an attempt to harness some momentum, Harris invited former First Lady Michelle Obama to the campaign trail. But in a bizarre twist, Harris instructed her audience to “shout their own name” instead. Harris also emphasized what she called an “overwhelming call for a fresh start,” apparently in response to frustration she’s encountered from voters. Ironically, this claim left critics pointing out that Harris and President Joe Biden have been at the helm for nearly four years. In response, Trump’s team capitalized on her remark, asking pointedly: “So why hasn’t there been a fresh start?”

The latest polling indicates that Trump’s lead has extended across critical swing states, including Michigan. It’s likely that this trend, combined with Harris’s struggles to connect with voters on the campaign trail, has driven many undecided voters toward Trump as election day approaches.
