Speaker Of The House Comments On Musk Statement
What happens when the most unfiltered billionaire in the world goes head-to-head with the GOP’s prized legislative achievement? You get the political spectacle currently unfolding around the “One Big, Beautiful Bill.”
This week, House Speaker Mike Johnson found himself doing political damage control as Elon Musk — tech titan, government efficiency czar, and now former special employee in the Trump administration — torched the bill Republicans have been championing as a triumph of conservative policy and economic revitalization.
It’s insincere for @SpeakerJohnson to insinuate @elonmusk is against the Big Beautiful Bill because it doesn’t benefit his companies specifically.

The very legislation that was supposed to enshrine Trump’s second-term economic blueprint into law has now become the subject of a very public and very pointed rebuke from Musk.
The clash began when Musk unleashed a barrage of criticism on X (formerly Twitter), calling the bill a “disgusting abomination” filled with pork and bloat that will “massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion.”

Musk’s tone was unmistakably furious, his message unsparing. He called for the political ousting of those responsible and warned of the long-term economic burdens the bill would impose.
Behind the scenes, Johnson scrambled. He revealed in a press conference that he’d spoken to Trump about Musk’s reversal, confirming that the former president was “not delighted.” Johnson had previously spoken with Musk and claimed the billionaire was encouraged by their conversation. But when Johnson called Musk back after the public criticism, there was no answer.

Despite the tension, Johnson maintained a tone of levity, calling the disagreement “friendly” and insisting the two have laughed about policy differences in the past. Yet his measured tone couldn’t mask the broader implications.
Musk wasn’t just offering an opinion. He was aligning himself with growing conservative discontent about unsustainable spending — a position also echoed by Sen. Rand Paul and, ironically, Democrats like Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, who called the GOP’s tax priorities a “disgusting abomination.”

The bill’s supporters are unmoved. Johnson insisted it would serve as “jet fuel for the U.S. economy,” delivering $1.6 trillion in savings and preserving the 2017 tax cuts while avoiding a default. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reaffirmed Trump’s backing, brushing off concerns with confidence: “This is ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ and he’s sticking to it.”
