Talarico Claims Flu, But Hospital Records Tell A Different Story
The most surprising fact here is that the candidate said he had the flu, yet a hospital employee confirmed he was treated for a mental health crisis. James Talarico missed nearly two weeks of his own Senate campaign while claiming he was sick at home. Independent journalists later found out the truth about his location and condition. He was not at home in Austin fighting a virus as he told voters.
On September 30, Talarico vanished from the public eye after a Zoom call. His team insisted he was home with a bad case of the flu. They denied reports that he was seeking help at a psychiatric facility in Ohio. This story changed quickly when reporters dug deeper into his whereabouts. The campaign refused to share medical records to prove his illness.
I spoke with Rep. James Talarico earlier today in Dallas. I ask him about:
-getting the flu
-the claim he was getting treatment for a stress-induced episode
-a debate update

Independent journalist Nick Sortor broke the story that Talarico was actually at the Lindner Center for Hope. This facility in Mason, Ohio, specializes in round-the-clock mental health treatment. Sortor reported that a hospital employee told him and fellow journalist Rhein Amacher that Talarico had been a patient there. Sortor posted on X: “BREAKING EXCLUSIVE: Ohio mental hospital CONFIRMS James Talarico was discharged from the facility earlier this week”
The employee on the phone gave more specific details about the timing. When Amacher called the facility to ask about Talarico, a woman who works there checked her records. This direct confirmation contradicts the flu story his campaign pushed for days.
James Talarico 2 weeks ago: “I went to the urgent care here in Dallas.”
Now he’s saying he only visited his primary care physician.
What is Talarico hiding? https://t.co/eYvL9Ynprt

Talarico himself tried to answer the questions during an interview with NBC DFW reporter Phil Prazan. He insisted he only saw his primary care physician and never went to a hospital. But Prazan pressed him on the details of his diabetes and his recent illness. Talarico said no, claiming his visit was not worse than a nasty flu.
However, the timeline of his medical visits does not add up for voters. Talarico declared two weeks before this interview: “I went to the urgent care here in Dallas” That location does not match his claim of seeing a primary care doctor in Austin, according to RedState. He also denied any stress-induced episode, stating that he just had the flu and reminding people that they cannot believe everything read online.
Representative James Talarico has never received treatment from Lindner Center of Hope.

President Donald Trump mocked the situation at a rally in Clarksville, Tennessee. He joked, “He had the longest flu ever recorded,” regarding the candidate’s extended absence, according to RedState. The campaign also tried to attack Attorney General Ken Paxton by claiming he had a rare condition causing “clinical levels of cowardice.” This deflection did not address the core issue of where Talarico actually was.
The Lindner Center for Hope eventually issued a statement to clear up the confusion. The official X account declared, “Representative James Talarico has never received treatment from Lindner Center of Hope” This direct denial from the facility stands in stark contrast to the reports from independent journalists who spoke to staff on the ground. The facility claims he was never a patient, while the journalists say an employee confirmed his discharge.
🚨 BREAKING EXCLUSIVE: Ohio mental hospital CONFIRMS James Talarico was discharged from the facility earlier this week
The “flu” thing was a BIG FAT LIE
Following reporting by @SaraGonzalesTX and @CarolineWren, a hospital employee told @RheinAmacher and I that Talarico had in fact been a patient at the Lindner Center of Hope near Cincinnati, Ohio, which specializes in around-the-clock mental health treatment.
While I sympathize with those dealing with mental health crises, this man is CLEARLY not suited to become a US Senator representing over 30 MILLION TEXANS.
The job doesn’t get easier after being elected — it only gets MORE stressful.
And Talarico clearly can’t handle it.
I pray he gets the help he needs, but Texans need a real representative they can rely on.

What matters most to Texas voters is the lack of transparency from the candidate. He missed over 800 votes in the Texas legislature while he was away. A Senate seat represents over 30 million people, and the job requires constant availability. The campaign called the reporting a “conspiracy theory” while reporters were staked outside his home for over a week. Voters need to know if their leaders can be trusted to tell the truth about their health and their duties.
