Trump Announces Running Mate
In a highly anticipated and pivotal moment, former President Donald Trump announced Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate for the 2024 presidential election.
The announcement came as Trump was being formally nominated as the Republican presidential nominee at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, stating:
“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio. J.D. honorably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association. J.D.’s book, “Hillbilly Elegy,” became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country. J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond….”
Trump continued, “As Vice President, J.D. will continue to fight for our Constitution, stand with our Troops, and will do everything he can to help me MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Congratulations to Senator J.D. Vance, his wife, Usha, who also graduated from Yale Law School, and their three beautiful children. MAGA2024!”
Following the announcement, Donald Trump Jr., a close friend of Vance, expressed his support on social media, stating, “Biden is stuck with the worst VP in the history of our nation. President Trump has one of the most dynamic, young leaders in the country in @JDVance1. We also have incredible patriots like Governor @DougBurgum, Senator @marcorubio, and countless others who will work their tails off to get my father elected this November! Our party has never been more unified!”

Vance, 39, who began serving as an Ohio senator in 2023, is widely seen as the heir apparent to the America First movement that Trump ushered in with his election in 2016.
His background, which includes serving in the Marine Corps, graduating summa cum laude from Ohio State University, and earning a law degree from Yale, has positioned him as a dynamic and capable leader. His bestselling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, which was later adapted into a movie, highlighted his journey from a troubled upbringing to achieving success and resonated with many working-class Americans.
