Trump Shocks Nation With Massive Automatic Enrollment For All Children
The plan was simple. Every child under 18 gets a Trump Account automatically. That was the expectation set on Wednesday. But here is the thing parents need to know. The money does not appear until you claim it. Parents must actively claim the account to unlock the $1,000 federal seed contribution.
President Trump announced the completion of this massive rollout on Wednesday. According to ABC News, the Treasury Department finished automatic enrollment on Oct. 1. This covers 60 million children who did not have an account yet. Add the 10 million who already opted in, and you have 70 million accounts total. The President called it “historic” during the event. He said, “Today, I’m pleased to announce that every single eligible minor child in America has now been automatically enrolled in a Trump Account,” per RedState.

These accounts are tax-deferred investment savings tools. The government put them in place when the One Big Beautiful Bill passed in summer 2025. Per the Washington Examiner, the funds go into a “diversified investment vehicle” for long-term growth. The goal is to help children build wealth over their lives.
But the automatic enrollment does not mean the cash is yours yet. A parent or guardian must step forward. Complete IRS Form 4547 and install the application. The app is on Apple and Google stores. Once you claim it, you can manage the funds. You can also let others contribute. Without this step, the Bank of New York Mellon acts as the trustee. The child cannot get the one-time federal deposit until the claim is made.
Who gets the seed money? The administration states that the $1,000 deposit is for children born from Jan. 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2028. Per ABC News, children outside this range do not get the federal seed. However, family and friends can still put money in. Parents and others can contribute up to $5,000 a year. The program persists until the year preceding the child’s 18th birthday.

The growth has been fast. President Trump noted the speed of adoption in his remarks. “Since launching in July, nearly 8 million accounts have been created in three months,” he said, according to the New York Post.
Brad Gerstner, founder of Altimeter and Invest America, helped build the system. He called it a massive shift for the country. “What an extraordinary day for the country,” Gerstner said. “I don’t think it’s an overstatement to say that this is the biggest transformation in the social construct and the social fabric of America for these kids since 1935, when Social Security was passed,” per RedState.
.@MichaelDell on @TrumpAccounts: “We believe the most important investment that can be made is in our children. About 38% of families and households have no stock at all and participation in the upside of America… If a parent has not claimed the account for their child, they should go and claim it.”

Major companies and donors are already on board. Uber and Nvidia are among the corporations helping out. Michael Dell and his wife, Susan, gave a huge start. ABC News reports that a $6.25 billion contribution launched the program. The President sees a bright future for these young investors. “If all goes well, and I think it will, they’ll end up being quite rich,” he said, according to RedState.
The enrollment is done. The accounts exist. But the power is in your hands. You must use the mobile app to claim the account. You must file the form to get control. If you wait, the money sits idle. The Treasury Department pledged the $1,000 seed for eligible newborns. But that cash only lands after you act.

Once the child becomes a legal adult, they can use the funds. Money can be used for education or buying a first home without penalty. However, withdrawals might face restrictions. They could be taxed at ordinary income rates. The President believes the result will be strong. “So if all goes well, which I think it will, they’ll end up being quite rich by the time they’re 18 and then 21,” he told reporters, per ABC News.
