University Of Michigan Student Arrested After Attacking Conservative Influencer
On Sunday, Lizzy Benichou, a conservative influencer, was shoved to the ground by a University of Michigan student, leading to an arrest. The unidentified student yelled she should have “killed” her as police hauled her away. This violent outburst happened during a campus debate in Ann Arbor.
The incident began when the student argued with two men seated behind a table. A sign asked “Is Islam Compatible with the West?” on Sunday. The student clapped directly in one man’s face before shouting “This is f–king stupid, bro,” per the New York Post. She then demanded to see their “f–king permit” while onlookers recorded the meltdown.
The student turned her anger toward Lizzy Benichou, who asked about dress codes in Iran. The student launched a blindside attack that knocked Benichou to the ground. A nearby male onlooker grabbed the enraged student to stop her from continuing.
As she was pulled away, the student yelled “Don’t f–king talk to me like that!” and “You wanna f–king get over here, bitch?!” She broke free from the bystander and lunged at Benichou again. Police and another man had to intervene to stop the second charge.
As the student resisted, officers pinned her down and attempted to apply handcuffs. “What the f–k are you going to do to me? Because I hit a dumb ass bitch in the face?” she said. The officer ordered her not to resist. Once she stopped fighting, another officer arrived to secure the handcuffs.
The student claimed she had several eyewitnesses and insisted she “didn’t do f–king shit.” She accused the man of “victimizing himself as a fully-grown man.” She also blamed “f–king anti-Muslim people here” for saying she put a hand on him.
Police reported the man told an off-camera officer that she had smacked him. She vehemently denied this even as the crowd insisted they had it all on camera. Her expletive-filled outburst continued until she was placed in the back of a police car.
Secured inside the vehicle, the student wept and declared she felt absolutely no remorse for what she did. The New York Post reported she declared she should have “killed” her as police removed her from the scene. No further details on charges were provided in the initial reports.
This violence occurred while political tensions were already high across the campus. Just two days before the midterm elections, Democrats encountered a remarkable political spectacle of dysfunction. A Democratic congresswoman backed the Republican Senate nominee while simultaneously witnessing the resignation in protest of two of her top aides.
Rep. Haley Stevens endorsed Republican Mike Rogers for the United States Senate on Sunday. She appeared alongside Rogers at a church service in Detroit while her party’s nominee gathered Democrats nearby. Stevens said “I don’t belong in Abdul’s campaign” in a video announcing her decision.
Swiftly, the Michigan Democratic Party declared that Stevens was no longer part of the state party. Curtis Hertel, the party’s chairman, suggested there was something “very wrong with her right now.” Stevens insisted she remained a Democrat despite the expulsion.
Her chief of staff and communications director both resigned shortly after the endorsement. They said they were “shocked and heartbroken” by the last-minute decision. The sequence of events highlighted a deep civil war within the party over Israel and ideology.
