Walz Has Meeting While In NYC
Alex Soros, the 38-year-old son of billionaire George Soros, has been making waves in Democratic political circles for years, and his influence only seems to be growing.
Recently, Soros hosted Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz at his New York City apartment, a move that further cements his role as a key player behind the scenes of the Democratic Party.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Soros expressed his enthusiasm for the meeting: “Honored to host Governor Tim Walz at my home in New York City!” This gathering highlights the close ties Soros has cultivated with top Democratic figures, as he continues to build on the legacy of his father, George Soros, one of the most well-known and polarizing figures in American politics.
Since taking the reins of his father’s empire, Alex Soros has become an increasingly important figure in Democratic fundraising efforts. While he hasn’t matched his father’s multi-billion-dollar political war chest, Alex has still contributed millions to Democratic causes and candidates.
Since 2018, records show that Alex has donated more than $5 million to federal political campaigns and committees, with a significant portion of that going to groups aligned with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Schumer and Pelosi are frequent presences in Soros’ social media posts, with Alex sharing dozens of photos alongside leading House and Senate Democrats. Just a few weeks ago, Soros posted a picture of himself with Vice President Kamala Harris, writing, “Great to recently catch up with Madame Vice President, [Kamala Harris]!” This meeting underscores the deep connections Soros has within the upper echelons of Democratic leadership.
Alex’s contributions have been significant, though still far short of the colossal amounts his father has poured into liberal causes. His largest single contribution—$2 million—went to the Schumer-aligned Senate Majority PAC.
In the 2020 election cycle, he also gave over $700,000 to the Biden Victory Fund, placing him among its top donors. Other recipients of Alex’s generosity include the Nancy Pelosi Victory Fund, the Democratic National Committee, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), with additional contributions spread across various state Democratic parties and individual campaigns.
While it remains unclear how much, if anything, Alex Soros has donated specifically to the Harris-Walz ticket, his longstanding financial support for Democratic causes and leadership suggests that his involvement is likely far from over as the election approaches.
