Feds Question Ilhan Omar’s Sister In Intensifying Immigration Probe
Federal investigators questioned Sahra Noor last week. She is the sister of Rep. Ilhan Omar. The interview happened after agents raided Omar’s home in Washington, D.C. on Monday, Oct. 12. This probe focuses on alleged immigration fraud. Sources familiar with the case told Fox News Digital that Noor spoke with authorities voluntarily. It remains unclear exactly what they discussed during the meeting.
Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at the residence Omar shares with her husband, Tim Mynett. Agents seized her personal phone, passport, and computers. The New York Post reported that federal officials have also obtained DNA samples. According to one source, the claim that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi married Omar in 2009 to secure a green card relies on this evidence being critical. That green card never happened. Two additional sources indicated the gathered evidence provides a solid basis to seek an indictment.
The investigation is run by the Minnesota US Attorney’s Office. DC US Attorney Jeanine Pirro oversees a separate probe into finances. This includes entries on House disclosure forms where Omar allegedly deflated her net worth by tens of millions. Border Czar Tom Homan stated that federal authorities have constructed a robust case potentially resulting in Omar’s denaturalization. He noted the family emigrated from Somalia via Kenya in 1995.
Last Thursday, Noor was set to appear at the Rochester branch of the University of Minnesota. A rep for the local bookstore told Fox News Digital that Noor canceled due to a “family emergency.” The event was promoted by Garden Party Books. Now it is known she was questioned by federal investigators that same week.
Public sightings of Omar have not occurred since the time preceding the raid. Her husband has been seen walking their dog and taking out the trash. Omar has not responded to repeated requests for comment. She did react on social media hours after the feds descended on her home. She wrote that this raid by Trump’s DHS represents an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies.
The probe looks back at the family’s immigration paperwork from 1995. Legal experts note the statute of limitations is longer for false immigration paperwork than for marriage fraud. The Daily Wire explains that a certificate does not confer citizenship. It only documents a status acquired under the law. Should the government assert Omar never satisfied derivative citizenship requirements, the core question becomes whether she ever attained citizenship status. The grand jury sits in Minnesota and continues to examine these facts.
Reports of agents “dumpster diving” for DNA were pushed back by sources. They told Fox News that such reports are incorrect. The feds have her personal passport as evidence. They do not believe she fled the country, as her family remains in the US. Her relatives have received more than a dozen grand jury subpoenas. The investigation continues to unfold as the legal team demands the return of some seized property.
