Elon Musk Announces SpaceX Share Giveaway For American Children
Elon Musk made a bold promise early Monday morning. Next year, every kid in America will receive one of his SpaceX shares, he stated. This announcement came on the social media platform X. Within mere hours, nearly 6 million people have already viewed the post.
The billionaire did not say exactly how the shares will be handed out yet. He also did not clarify if citizenship or residency matters for the gift. But the scale of the plan is massive. According to reports, there were 72 million children under 18 in the US. At Friday’s closing price of $146.03 per share, this giveaway would be worth around $10.5 billion.
Musk made this promise right after criticizing another company’s plan. He spoke Sunday about Anthropic’s idea to set aside 5% of its shares for a public fund.
“I recommend giving the shares directly to the public,” Musk said Sunday, critiquing Anthropic’s plans. “This is what I will be doing.”
He seems to want the money to go straight to people, not through a middleman.
Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America.
This will be the first of many.

This move also connects to a federal program the Trump administration started. The new Trump Accounts program gives eligible children a one-time $1,000 federal contribution. It aims to help families see the benefits of owning stock. Musk’s plan takes that concept to a much larger level.
Musk hinted that this single gift is just the start of something bigger. He wrote on X that the giveaway “will be the first of many.” Kyle Becker of RedState noted that Musk is concerned about our children’s future. In June, the aerospace firm SpaceX completed the largest initial public offering in history by going public.
A valuation of approximately $2 trillion now applies to the company. Plans to donate shares to accounts for low-income children were announced by SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell earlier this year. At current prices, that earlier pledge holds a value of nearly $300 million. Musk’s new plan would dwarf that earlier effort.
Per the New York Post, Musk is the world’s first trillionaire. Details regarding how he intends to allocate the shares to the public were not provided by him. Just hours passed before the post on X reached nearly 6 million views.
