Abdul El-Sayed Breaks Silence On Brotherhood Ties Posts Reveal
Abdul El-Sayed stood on national television and said no. He told NBC News host Kristen Welker that he had no ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. He also said his family had no ties either. That was the promise made on Sunday. The reality is a different story entirely.
The moment happened during an interview that aired Sunday. Welker asked El-Sayed to set the record straight. She wanted to know if he or his family had connections. El-Sayed replied “No” to both questions. He was clear and direct. He said “No” when asked if he had ties and “No” when asked if his family had ties, according to the New York Post. He suggested his opponent Mike Rogers was just attacking him. He called those attacks Islamophobic.
“Can you set the record straight about whether you or your family have any ties to the Muslim Brotherhood?”
Abdul El-Sayed: No.
“No, you don’t have any ties?”
El-Sayed: No
“And your family doesn’t?”
El-Sayed: No https://t.co/ZJhAxfzOOe

But the record was not straight. Social media posts from his own half-sister contradict him. These posts were resurfaced by reporting from the Daily Wire. They show a family history that El-Sayed did not mention.
The posts come from Eman Abdelhadi, El-Sayed’s half-sister. She wrote about their mother, Fatten Elkomy. Their mother attended Alexandria University in Egypt. The university had strong Muslim Brotherhood activity in the 70s. Abdelhadi wrote a post in 2012 about this. She said: “Had an amazing talk with my mom about her activism in the Muslim Brotherhood during the early 70s while she was in college #respect”, according to the New York Post.
She was even more direct in another post. She wrote: “My family has long been MB”, the Daily Wire reported. MB is an abbreviation for the Muslim Brotherhood. She added that she felt the group navigated politics poorly. In a July 2013 post, she wrote: “I have had family jailed for being a part of it”. She also posted about praying for family in Egypt who supported the group.
BREAKING: Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign is responding to @FoxNews after unearthed social media posts from El Sayed’s sister in 2012 appear to show her saying her family has been involved with and supportive of the Muslim Brotherhood. I asked the campaign if they deny the posts are in fact from his sister, and what comment they have given that El-Sayed just told Meet the Press over the weekend that nobody in his family has any ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. This is what they told me.
“Abdul is a dad and a doctor. He has spent his entire career working to keep Michiganders healthy and safe. Independent fact checkers have repeatedly debunked Mike’s lies, but their campaign continues to use bad faith attacks on Abdul’s faith and family. Mike wants to distract from Trump’s agenda that is terrorizing Michigan families at the pump and at the grocery store.”
– El-Sayed campaign spokesperson Roxie Richner.
On background, the campaign says that claims El Sayed and his family are part of the Muslim Brotherhood have been debunked as “racist” and “untrue”.

These are not vague claims. They are specific words written by his sister. They describe their mother as an active member. They describe the family as long connected. The Egyptian chapter of the group is now a designated terrorist organization.
The El-Sayed campaign tried to move past the posts. A spokesperson spoke to Fox News. The campaign said: “Abdul is a dad and a doctor”. According to them, his entire professional life was dedicated to maintaining the health of Michiganders. The New York Post reported this statement. The campaign also told Fox News that fact checkers had debunked lies from Mike Rogers. “Independent fact checkers have repeatedly debunked Mike’s lies, but their campaign c”, the campaign said, per RedState.
Their defense rests on his character as a doctor.
